Centro Cultural Rector Ricardo Rojas, Buenos Aires · April 7th, 13th and 14ths, 2010

As part of the Second International Call "Bicentennials in Action", the 1st Regional Workshop was held in Buenos Aires. It took place on April 7, 13 and 14, 2010, in the Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo auditorium of the Centro Cultural Rector Ricardo Rojas, Universidad de Buenos Aires.

The meeting was held in three sessions, where 15 specialists in architecture, urban issues and visual arts took part, and it was attended by more than 60 people. The first session offered an overview of the celebrations planned or held in the neighborhoods of Yungay, Santiago de Chile (Patricio Gross); Flores, Buenos Aires (Luis Tosoni and Ángel Prignano); and in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (Héctor Aguilar).

During the second session, topics were presented regarding the construction of the bicentennial commemorations at a regional level (Margarita Gutman), the urban planning and architectural projects at a national level (Gabriela Sorda) and in the city of Buenos Aires (Marina Vasta). Finally Sandra Condoleo and Lidia González, winners of an Honorable Mention at the 1st International Call, presented a retrospective on the city of Buenos Aires at the time of the First Centenary.

The last session included three of the five winners of the First International Call, who presented essays on photography about Argentina during the First Centenary (Alejandra Niedermaier), and about Argentine films around 1910 (Andrea Cuarterolo), and the video entitled "Plaza de Mayo 200 años" (Alberto Boselli and Graciela Raponi). The panel also included the presentation of Roxana Meygide, representative of the INCAA (Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales), who reported on the bicentennial activities that the agency is currently developing. At the end of each session, the themes presented were discussed with the audience, as well as questions were answered in relation to the 2nd International Call "Bicentennials in Action".

The Regional Workshop was organized by the Programa Bicentenarios of the Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Urbanismo, Universidad de Buenos Aires (FADU-UBA) and was supported by the Observatory on Latin America (OLA) of the New School University of New York and the Centro Cultural Rector Ricardo Rojas, UBA.
