Toma la ola de protestas que se iniciaron en la ciudad en 2013 como punto de partida y las fundamenta en la historia de movilizaci\u00f3n de los movimientos sociales en el Brasil urbano. Basado en trabajo de campo etnogr\u00e1fico con una federaci\u00f3n de movimientos de vivienda, este trabajo demuestra la pertinencia actual del concepto de derecho a la ciudad para los movimientos sociales de los pobres urbanos y examina la interpretaci\u00f3n creativa de estos movimientos de la legislaci\u00f3n nacional para apoyar sus reivindicaciones de vivienda y ciudadan\u00eda urbana.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy Earle es consejera urbana del Departamento de Desarrollo Internacional del Reino Unido, actualmente con sede en la Misi\u00f3n Permanente del Reino Unido ante la ONU en Nueva York. Antes de convertirse en funcionaria p\u00fablica, fue becaria post-doctoral en el Centro Africano de Ciudades, Universidad de Ciudad del Cabo, donde realiz\u00f3 investigaciones sobre el acceso a la tierra y la vivienda en Maputo, Mozambique.
