PANEL · Contesting Futures: Beyond the UN Summit for the Future

September 19, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Is the UN approach to the future ambitious enough? Does it represent the aspirations of the diversity of peoples around the world? Can it empower nations, communities, and cultures to identify their paths to fulfill their own expectations, desires, and capacities?

This panel will challenge the UN Summit approach envisioning a single future based on decades of meetings and international commitments.

Speakers will examine different attitudes towards the future, means of articulating fears and desires for the world to come, including possibilities, limitations, and agency. The idea is to create spaces for more inclusive imaginations.

The event will conclude with an open conversation with the audience about their insights provoked by the panelists.
