SUMMARY:ONLINE: Futures of the Past · First Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe program 2084: Futures Imagined from the South seeks to unleash\, promote and strengthen the imagination of futures as a capacity\, both individual and collective. It seeks to mobilize thinking about the future of Latin American cities from a multiplicity of voices and experiences\, with the aim of provoking conversations between diverse actors and thereby contributing to the collective construction of that future. \nThe program also intends to investigate and discuss how the future was thought in past times – what we call Futures of the Past\, and how this was reflected in different media: cinema\, literature\, plastic arts\, music\, urban plans\, popular culture and even different worldviews. \nIn this discussion\, the panelists will address the futures of the past from very different sources: popular imaginations of Buenos Aires at the beginning of the 20th century reflected in illustrated magazines\, contrasted with the imaginations of experts in urban planning; the conception of space-time in Quechua culture and how this questions linear views of time; and\, in a shift in focus\, the reimagining of the early 21st century from hypothetical interviews conducted in 2066. \n. \nPanelists\n• Alma Sarmiento\, Universidad del Rosario\, Bogotá\, Colombia\n• Enrique Rodriguez\, Icesi\, Cali\, Colombia\n• Martin Groissman\, University of Buenos Aires\, Buenos Aires\, Argentina\n• Margarita Gutman\, The New School\, New York\, United States \nModerator\n• Juan Manuel González\, The New School\, New York\, United States \n  \nThis webinar will be held through the Zoom and will be in Spanish. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:ONLINE · Why Local Public Health Systems Play a Critical Role in Controlling the Spread of COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds\, billions of public monies are poured into high tech solutions for controlling its spread: research and development of vaccines\, treatment and diagnostics\, apps for contact tracing and tracking contagion\, and more. This panel will highlight the role of local public health systems\, particularly the challenges in Africa and Latin America\, and the US. \n  \nModerator\nSakiko Fukuda-Parr\, Prof. of International Affairs and GPIA Director. \nSpeakers \nKatie Bollbach – Director Of US Public Health Accompaniment Unit\, PIH USA\nDaniel Bernal – Sub-Regional Coordinator for Companeros En Salud Mexico \nMelino Ndayizigiye – Acting Director\, PIH Lesotho \n  \nThis webinar is the fourth installment in the Global Pandemics in an Unequal World Webinar Series. \nWe hope you can join us! \nREGISTER \n  \nPresented by Julien J. Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs at the Schools of Public Engagement\, with the University of Oslo\, Health Policy Watch and Partners in Health
