The OLA is pleased to announce a Call for Submissions for the third annual New School Graduate Student and Alumni Conference on Latin America. The conference aims to showcase exemplary graduate student and alumni work that responds to the critical questions related to Latin America in order to inspire dialogue between students and alumni across The New School. A jury of New School faculty will review submitted abstracts. Applicants will be selected to participate in The New School Graduate Student and Alumni Conference on Latin America on Thursday April 28th, 2016.

Criteria for Submissions:
1. To participate in this call, you must be a currently enrolled New School graduate student or a New School alumnus. 2. Submissions must focus on Latin America and/or the Caribbean. 3. Submissions can fall in the following categories: A. Academic research (i.e. scholarly work, written essays) B. Creative practices (i.e. photographic essay, video, performance piece, sound art, original musical composition or design proposal) C. Community engagement (community organizing and building activities, grassroots projects, participatory development initiatives). 4. If more than one individual created the submission, all group members must give consent for the work to be submitted and published. * GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS: Submissions can take the form of an academic essay, photographic essay, video, performance piece, sound art, original musical composition or design proposal. A one-page abstract should be submitted in PDF format to ola@newschool.edu by 5:00pm EST on Thursday March 10, 2016. Please do not include your name on the abstract; only your submission title. If accepted, completed work should be submitted to ola@newschool.edu by 5:00pm EST on Thursday April 21st, 2016, one week before the conference.
Academic research and community engagement: completed essays are between 5,000- 10,000 words excluding bibliography and including footnotes.
Photographic essay: completed essay and a 1 – 2 page written statement contextualizing the work in PDF should be submitted.
Videos, Performance pieces, Sound art and Musical compositions: completed piece should be no longer than 5 minutes, to be submitted on CD, DVD, thumb drive or uploaded to the web, meeting the following specifications: for audio mp3, minimum quality 128 kps, for video mp4, 1280 x 720 pixels minimum frame rate 24 fps. Additionally, completed submission must include a 1 -2 page written statement contextualizing the work in PDF.
Design proposals: two key images of your proposal to be included with abstract submission on March 10th, and completed project should include one 36″ x 48″ board and a 1 – 2 page written statement contextualizing the work in PDF.
