The Observatory on Latin America has institutional agreements and cooperates with the following institutions:

  • Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Buenos AiresPrograma Bicentenarios and Programa Diseño y Desarrollo Social, Argentina
    With more than 300,000 students, the Universidad de Buenos Aires is an important tertiary degree institution in Argentina and one of the most prestigious of Latin America. The Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Urbanismo (of Architecture, Design and Urban Studies, FADU-UBA) was founded in 1947 and currently has 23,000 students enrolled. The Bicentennials Program functions from within the Office for International Programs at FADU-UBA. This program was created in 2006 with the objective of collaborating with regional institutions to commemorate the bicentennials in both Argentina and across Latin America. In the same Office and altogether with the Instituto de la Espacialidad Humana, FADU works, since it was created in 2010, the Programa de Diseño y Desarrollo Social. This program aims collaborative interdisciplinary work and applied research in urban areas, focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable.
  • Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas, Mexico
    With almost 300,000 students, the UNAM is one of the largest universities in Latin America. In its long almost 100 years of history, it has become a center of reference for the region. The university’s Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas (Institute for Historical Investigation) was founded in 1945 through an initiative of a group of prominent historians, professors of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras (School of Philosophy and Letters) at the UNAM. The Institute was created with the mission to focus the studies being done on the past, particularly those of Mexican history, and to contribute to the further generation of knowledge of history.
  • Centro de Estudios del Patrimonio de la Universidad Central, Chile
    Founded in 1982, the Universidad Central is one of the three oldest private universities in Chile. The Centro de Estudios del Patrimonio (Heritage Studies Center) at the university focuses on education, values, and dissemination of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The Center’s objective is to promote and manage teaching activities, research, extension and consultancies concerning cultural heritage.
  • Fundación SES, Argentina
    Fundación SES is an organization dedicated to promoting and developing new strategies for including at-risk adolescents and youth in the community. SES stands for the three fundamental values of the institution: Sustainability, for its commitment to future generations; Education, understood as a vehicle for development; and Solidarity, a basic element for social integration.
  • Latin American Council of Social Sciences, CLACSO
    A non-governmental international institution created in 1967 on the initiative of UNESCO. At present, it brings together 320 research centers and over 600 post-graduate programs in Social Sciences and Humanities (master and doctorate studies) located in 25 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, United States and Europe. The aims are promoting and developing research and training in Social Sciences; as well as strengthening exchange and cooperation among organizations and researchers from in and outside the region. It further encourages active dissemination of the knowledge produced by social scientists among social movements, popular organizations and civil society entities. Through such activities CLACSO helps rethink the issues related to Latin American and Caribbean societies.
  • Facultad de Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina
    This department includes majors in Communication Sciences, Sociology, and Political Science. It has a prestigious faculty, which together with the students, researchers and staff number about 30,000 people working in the institution. Within this department are the renowned Gino Germani Institute and the Institute for Latin American and Caribbean Studies.

  • Organización Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Centros Históricos (OLACCHI), Ecuador
    The Organización Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Centros Históricos (Latin American and Caribbean Historical Centers, OLACCHI) is an international organization directed towards renewal, renovation and innovation of the heritage of the region’s urban centers. In this way the OLACCHI’s programs rescue the individual expressions of culture in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Universidad de la República (UdelaR), Uruguay
    With more than 80,000 students, the Universidad de la República de Uruguay (University of the Republic of Uruguay), founded in 1849, is the largest in the country. UdelaR offers a superior education in the study of culture as well as working to develop and disseminate information on this area of focus. The University works to protect and advance scientific and technological research and artistic activities, as well as contribute to the study of problems of general interest and public understanding.
  • Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT), Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, Argentina
    The Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (National University of Tucumán, UNT) is the largest university of Northern Argentina. Founded on May 25, 1914 in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán, the university?s Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo (School of Architecture and Urban Studies) was included in 1952. The School currently has 2,500 students enrolled.
  • Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis, The New School, United States
    The Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis, made possible through a generous gift from Irene and Bernard L. Schwartz, is the economic policy research arm of the New School for Social Research Department of Economics. The activities of the Schwartz Center focus on three issues: economic growth, employment, and inequality. Our focus is on the U.S. economy, but always with an awareness of the global context of U.S. economic developments.
  • Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM), Argentina
    The Universidad Nacional de San Martin emerged as one of the new public universities in Argentina. Its creation was linked to the idea started in the seventies, about the decentralization of the great universities, and the desire of the own community of San Martín (town located northeast of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina) to have a university in its territory. The first academic degree and graduate programs began in 1994. Today, the University has ten academic units: School of Science and Technology, School of Economics and Business, School of Humanities, School of Politics and Government and Graduate School, Institute Sabato, Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences and the Movement Institute Industrial Quality, Biotechnology Research Institute, and Institute of Social Studies. 
  • Chulalongkorn University, Thailand
    Chulalongkorn University is Thailand’s first institution of higher education founded in the country and it is considered the country’s most prestigious university. For more than 90 years now, Chulalongkorn has been committed to ongoing development in programs, human resources, facilities and services. It has nineteen faculties and institutes. Regarded as the best university in Thailand, it consistently attracts top students from around the country. It is named after King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), and was established by his son and successor King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) in 1917 by combining the Royal Pages School and the College of Medicine. 
  • Equidad para la Infancia Latin America
    Is part of the global site It is an initiative of The New School and the ARCOR Foundation, to foster public debate about reform and change in the hemisphere, with the promotion of multiple voices. One of its main objectives is to improve academic and public understanding about the processes of political and economic chande currently underway in Latin America.
  • India China Institute, The New School, United States
    India and China share many interests and face many similar challenges, and the United States is increasingly engaged with both countries on many levels. The India China Institute (ICI) fosters collaborative research and institutional and personal connections among these three countries. ICI scholars analyze political and social issues and trends in India, China and the United States with the goal of encouraging leaders, managers, opinion-builders, and academics in all three countries to work constructively together to promote social and economic progress, address mutual problems, and identify areas for future cooperation.
  • Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, FLACSO, Ecuador
    Founded in 1957 by the initiative of UNESCO, FLACSO was created as an international, inter-governmental, regional and autonomous body comprised of Latin American and Caribbean countries. It’s core objective is to carry out academic activities related to the Social Sciences, leading to regional development and integration. The International System FLACSO has offices, programs and projects in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Dominican Republic and Uruguay.
  • Universidad Nacional de Avellaneda (UNDAV), Argentina
    The Universidad Nacional de Avellaneda emerges in 2009 of a debate on college planning and in behalf of the historical antecedents which refer to cultural and educational heritage of the city of Avellaneda. It’s main objectives are the training of people in high ethical, political and professional standards, the generation and adaptation of knowledge and culture, as well as the active participation in change processes towards a better quality of life of the community in which it is inserted.
  • Autoridad de Cuenca Matanza Riachuelo (ACUMAR), Argentina
    Is a interjurisdictional public entity, joined by the parliaments of Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires and the 14 boroughs that conform the river basin. It’s mission is to recover the Matanza Riachuelo basin, generating lasting results through public policies that promote new infrastructure, cleaning and maintenance of public space, control of environmental conditions and industrial activity, delivering knowledge and promoting social engagement as a key to meet the objectives.
    ACUMAR works to clean up the watershed and improve the quality of life of more than 8 million people, preserving the right of present and future generations to live in a healthier environment generations.
  • Ministerio de Educación de la Nación, Argentina
    Is the department of Poder Ejecutivo Nacional which sets educational policies and strategies, as participation procedures established by Law of National Education.
    Among other functions it ensures compliance of the provisions laid down by law, through planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, programs and educational outcomes; it strengthens the capacities of educational planning and management of jurisdictional governments to fulfill their own functions; it contributes financial and technical assistance to jurisdictions to ensure the functioning of the national education system; it issues general equivalency standards in curricula providing national validity to diplomas.
