On October 6th, we had the pleasure to host the launch of the book “The Tao of K-drama: Wise Narratives for a Troubled World” by Mindy Fullilove, a former professor at The New School. The event featured a panel of former students who previously had taken Mindy’s Situation Analysis course at the New School – Aaron Bierstein, Leopolda Silvera, and Audrey Jenkins. The discussion was facilitated by Adam Alghalith.

The panelists shared their experiences analyzing Korean dramas (K-dramas) using situation analysis methodology, which examines complex situations through multiple perspectives and dialectical thinking. The discussion covered how K-dramas, like “Crash Landing on You” and “Our Blues,” demonstrate healing narratives across different scales from individual to community levels, showing how characters transform from self-protection to caring for others. The panelists explained how they used detailed data collection methods to analyze every scene, creating comprehensive timelines and identifying patterns of “care and anti-care” that reflect broader social dynamics. Professor Mindy discussed her approach of watching K-dramas to understand their cultural significance, emphasizing how K-dramas offer hope through their restoration arcs and community healing themes, particularly contrasting with Western narratives that often end with individual resolution rather than collective action.
