SUMMARY:Debates Interuniversitarios
DESCRIPTION:This first issue of Revista Debates Interuniversitarios\, published by the Center for Financial and Tax Law Studies at the University of Buenos Aires\, has been jointly edited with the Observatory on Latin America (OLA/The New School) and the University of Salamanca. \nIt contains critical reflections from thirty-four Argentine\, North American\, and European authors on the impact of the exponential development of digital technology\, which permeates a significant portion of professional\, institutional\, and everyday activities across much of the world. \nView or download the PDF (in Spanish) \nThe first section broadly addresses the digital issue through a selection of approaches from the humanities and social sciences. It includes articles aimed at denaturalizing the uncritical use of digital platforms\, as well as contributions\, limitations\, and new horizons in scientific theory and practice. Fourteen distinguished philosophers\, sociologists\, economists\, architects\, historians\, and scientists contribute their sharp analytical and critical perspectives on the impact of AI in their respective fields and its intersections. \nThe second section delves into key aspects of the challenges AI presents to legal practice. It consists of articles analyzing various AI regulatory models proposed in different countries or regions of the Western world. It also includes contributions on governance and legal practice\, justice approaches from a human rights perspective\, as well as AI’s impact on the state and fundamental rights. Seven internationally recognized lawyers enrich this section. \nThe impact on financial and tax law is explored in the third and final section. Thirteen authors examine the conditions AI imposes on administrative management\, financial and tax processes\, and procedures. The section concludes with reflections on possible advanced approaches to overcoming distortions in financial and tax activity management\, particularly those arising from economic delocalization and deterritorialization. These perspectives seek to address the challenges of digital power through financial and tax international public law.del poder digital. \n  \nLink to the PDF at Facultad de Derecho\, UBA: http://www.derecho.uba.ar/institucional/centro-estudios-der-tributario/revista-debates-interuniversitarios/revista-Universitarios-Ed0001.pdf

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Futures of the Past · First Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe program 2084: Futures Imagined from the South seeks to unleash\, promote and strengthen the imagination of futures as a capacity\, both individual and collective. It seeks to mobilize thinking about the future of Latin American cities from a multiplicity of voices and experiences\, with the aim of provoking conversations between diverse actors and thereby contributing to the collective construction of that future. \nThe program also intends to investigate and discuss how the future was thought in past times – what we call Futures of the Past\, and how this was reflected in different media: cinema\, literature\, plastic arts\, music\, urban plans\, popular culture and even different worldviews. \nIn this discussion\, the panelists will address the futures of the past from very different sources: popular imaginations of Buenos Aires at the beginning of the 20th century reflected in illustrated magazines\, contrasted with the imaginations of experts in urban planning; the conception of space-time in Quechua culture and how this questions linear views of time; and\, in a shift in focus\, the reimagining of the early 21st century from hypothetical interviews conducted in 2066. \n. \nPanelists\n• Alma Sarmiento\, Universidad del Rosario\, Bogotá\, Colombia\n• Enrique Rodriguez\, Icesi\, Cali\, Colombia\n• Martin Groissman\, University of Buenos Aires\, Buenos Aires\, Argentina\n• Margarita Gutman\, The New School\, New York\, United States \nModerator\n• Juan Manuel González\, The New School\, New York\, United States \n  \nThis webinar will be held through the Zoom and will be in Spanish. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:ONLINE · Why Local Public Health Systems Play a Critical Role in Controlling the Spread of COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds\, billions of public monies are poured into high tech solutions for controlling its spread: research and development of vaccines\, treatment and diagnostics\, apps for contact tracing and tracking contagion\, and more. Less attention is paid to the infrastructure of public health systems and the soft technology of know how and services that communicate the need for behavior change and deliver the services to implement a strategy for controlling the virus. This panel will highlight the role of local public health systems\, particularly the challenges in Africa and Latin America\, and the US. \n  \nModerator\nSakiko Fukuda-Parr\, Prof. of International Affairs and GPIA Director. \nSpeakers \nKatie Bollbach – Director Of US Public Health Accompaniment Unit\, PIH USA\nDaniel Bernal – Sub-Regional Coordinator for Companeros En Salud Mexico \nMelino Ndayizigiye – Acting Director\, PIH Lesotho \n  \nThis webinar is the fourth installment in the Global Pandemics in an Unequal World Webinar Series. \nWe hope you can join us! \nREGISTER \n  \nPresented by Julien J.
