The Building Bicentennials Program of the OLA held a round table session on “Bicentennials in Action: Challenges for Urban Governance” at the World Urban Forum V organized by UN Habitat in Rio de Janeiro on March 23, 2010. The session was introduced by Tim Marshall, Provost of the New School, and included Margarita Gutman, Michael Cohen, and Fernando Carrión of OLACCHI from Quito.
Margarita Gutman presented an overview and analysis of activities underway in various Latin American countries, followed by a commentary by Fernando Carrión, with an assessment of the impact of the commemoration of the Bicentennials in Ecuador, and Michael Cohen with reflections on the links to urban governance. The session was attended by 100 people, including government officials from Argentina, Brazil, and Ecuador, students, NGOs and academics from many countries.
