The Universidad Metropolitana para la Educación y el Trabajo (UMET) is the first Argentine university to emerge from a workers’ organization. Created in 2012, it was promoted by the Sindicato Único de Trabajadores de Renta y Horizontal (SUTERH) and is currently co-managed by 62 other union organizations. SUTERH has an active presence in the cultural field and administers several media outlets. According to Nicolás Trotta, the objective is to: “break barriers of access to higher education for workers and their children, and help them throughout their educational process.”
